On October 14, 2024, Michael Scott glanced at his calendar and realized that his Zoom meeting was set to start in just 10 minutes. It was 10:50 AM, and he felt good about how the day was progressing.

He took a quick look at the JIRA board and noticed that the sprint was going well.

The Three Amigos meeting traditionally included a QA person, but that role had been replaced by automation around 2023. This was yet another win for the software engineering industry, providing ongoing benefits.

Michael reflected on engineers' primary purpose: to automate everything. He often fantasized about a future where even engineers could be removed from the software delivery equation. Until that day arrived, he found the current process useful for reducing ambiguity between the business and the engineers.

The role of project managers had also become obsolete a long time ago, around 2020.

To understand a problem, software engineers need to communicate with people.

Those who preferred not to talk simply moved on to different careers.

In the meeting, everyone booted up their GooBoard, which displayed the entire system in a sequence of events known as an Event Storm Diagram. This diagram showcased every important business process.

The diagram did not reveal any technical details about how the team delivered the solutions.

Julia from finance was the first person to join the meeting. They chit-chatted briefly until Rick, another finance team member, appeared on the screen.
