Learning leadership skills is attainable for all individuals. Developing these skills can enhance your effectiveness as an individual. You do not require permission to improve your skills and gain experience. Leadership is not restricted to a specific role or experience; it is inclusive and requires action. Taking action often entails having the courage to do so. Speaking out takes courage and is an act of leadership that anyone can take. If you are intentional, you can influence leaders in your organization. However, you can only do so if you remain in tight alignment at each step. It is crucial to note that leadership can apply to individuals and groups. A management role only sometimes makes someone an excellent leader.
Strategies for aspiring leaders:
Focus on providing non-blocking feedback to support your team.
Curate technical quality and stay aligned with authority.
Communicate and document important information.
Learn and develop yourself, and work on what matters most to maximize your time.
When in meetings, come prepared, be present, and have a proposal to create alignment.
Volunteer for low-status tasks
