Empathy for users is a crucial skill for all engineers to cultivate. As a Staff Engineer, you take on a managerial role without managing people. Changing our habits and approaches can revolutionize the industry and elevate ourselves.

Technology needs advocates to speak on its behalf. You should ground innovative concepts in serving your users and business. Vision should be ambitious but not audacious. The specificity of the vision enhances its usefulness. It is always beneficial to suggest and apply one or more engineering processes. This practice helps improve learning. If you must repeat the same discussion many times, it is time to create a process. Companies must either explore new ideas or risk fading away.
