Unrelated: Building Trust and Collaboration in Remote Engineering Teams

Believing in the good intentions of your colleagues and their lack of desire to harm you is what trust is all about. Instead of avoiding conflict, teams should embrace it as an opportunity for healthy disagreement. Successful teams prioritize the collective success of the team rather than individual achievements. We must establish trust within our teams and explore new working methods to move forward. However, many of us resist change, which poses a challenge. We can either stick to traditional power structures or continue with ineffective patterns, but trusting each other to make the right decisions is crucial. Every team member should feel included, regardless of their location. Initiating tailored discussions at the start of meetings can encourage group connections and build rapport. Trust is an essential ingredient for any successful team, especially virtual ones.

Off Topic: Building a Generative Organization

Unless prohibited by policy or agreement, it is best to assume you have the freedom to do what you need. This freedom leads to more significant learning and understanding and better performance. Focusing too much on execution can limit our growth potential. Making ourselves indispensable may seem like a good idea, but it can make our teams and organizations less resilient. It's important to recognize that freedom and autonomy are essential for motivation. Teams learn and grow exceptionally when they create a safe environment where they can try and fail.
